God wants to have an intimate relationship with us. He knows us inside and out but how well do we know Him? Are we intimately acquainted with His nature, attributes, and personality? How would you describe Jesus?

Several scriptures mention how others viewed Him. Jesus knew what it was like to be rejected and despised. Many held Him in low esteem. He was familiar with pain. In humility, He entered this world with the purpose of serving others.

He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.Isaiah 53:3 (NIV)

Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:28 (NIV)

Jesus was compassionate (John 8), humorous (Matthew 17:27) and patient (1 Peter 2:23). He loved His family and friends. He cared for widows and children. Jesus was disciplined and hard working. With others, He was generous with His time although He also appreciated times of solitude. Scripture also describes Him as meek and gentle.

Now I, Paul, myself am pleading with you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ—who in presence am lowly among you, but being absent am bold toward you.

2 Corinthians 10:1 (NKJV)

The process of sanctification begins the moment we give our hearts to Christ. The Holy Spirit guides us through lessons and trials to chip away our old man with the intent of making us into the very image of Christ. The more we know of our Savior, the more we can strive to reflect His nature.

Jesus was humble. How are we demonstrating humility in our every day lives? Christ was thoughtful and caring. He was an advocate for widows and the sick. How are we expressing care for those around us? Jesus was not slothful! Rather, He was busy about His Father’s business (saving the lost) every day. He walked long distances to share the Good News. Are we working tirelessly for the glory of God? How are we serving?

Many folks admit they are not patient. They admire this quality in others. However, they don’t really want to work on this particular fruit of the Spirit. Why? Because it requires discipline, love, selflessness, and self-control. Consider what your life would be like if God wasn’t patient with you? Ouch! That was a slap in the face! Right? What are some ways you can demonstrate patience this week?

Make it your goal to learn more and more about God’s character. Strive to demonstrate each of His attributes while you grow in your intimacy with Christ. Jesus called Himself The Light Of The World. We too are called to be a light. May the love of God that resides in your heart be reflected in a mighty way.

When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12 (NIV)

You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV)
