“’For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds,’ says the LORD.”
Jeremiah 30:17a

Life is never just smooth sailing and good times. With our mountaintop experiences, there are also treks into deep valleys. Everyone goes through adversity. Pain and suffering are included in the package called life.

Scripture tells us about spiritual seasons and thankfully, they come and go. We are never stuck in a never-ending season of pain, sorrow, rejection, and adversity. There is always hope and a way out of the lowlands or spiritual deserts. All we need to do is look up, ask for help, and patiently wait for the Lord’s help.

To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven:
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; A time to mourn, and a time to dance.”
Ecclesiastes 3:1 and 4 (NKJV)

After a difficult trial, some people find themselves depressed, angry, and hopeless. Their hearts harden and their faith, if they ever had true faith, appears lukewarm at the very best. What can be done? How can healing begin? How can wounded hearts find change?

It always starts with Jesus.

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6 (NKJV)

Biblical counseling begins with the chief cornerstone, the foundation of our faith, the truth: Jesus Christ. REAL healing, life-changing healing only happens when we acknowledge Jesus as our Savior.

When we acknowledge God’s perfection and our inability to live up to His standard, we see our need for redemption. True healing will only come when we recognize our sinful condition and acknowledge Jesus as Lord. We must believe that He died for our sins, was resurrected, and through grace, have the forgiveness of all sin.

By inviting Him into our hearts we give the Helper, the Holy Spirit, permission to transform us. When we are born again, we become new creatures. The old man slips away and we have a spiritual insight, which allows God to work in our life. We inherit the riches of heaven, and that includes the life-changing power of God. Complete healing will never happen unless we recognize this truth.

“Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.” Colossians 2:8-10 (NKJV)

Many lost souls seek help and healing but never receive it. They pursue worldly helps but they only lead to false hope and continuous frustration. When Jesus is the Lord of our life, we are able to recognize biblical truths that lead to healing, peace, acceptance, and life-changing growth. We are able to walk by faith and trust in an unseen God, even when the whys and hows of life remain a mystery. By faith we accept Jesus as Lord and by faith, we have healing… if we submit to His will.

If you are in need of healing, meditate on the Word. Ask the Holy Spirit for help and He will guide you to Scriptures that will challenge you. Take them into your heart. They will provide you with instruction and hope. You will find healing as He transforms you into the image of His Son.

“My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.” Proverbs 4:20-22 (NKJV)

“Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He saved them out of their distresses. He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.” Psalm 107:19-20 (NKJV)

“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’” Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV)

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19 (NKJV)
